Just like its word itself, wastewater is basically water containing waste. Therefore, it is of paramount importance to understand the composition of waste in the water. Since there is no absolutely pure water, any water in our life is wastewater.

Solid waste is somehow different from wastewater due to its shape. However, most solid waste composes water, organic and inorganic matters.  

Air can be polluted by any matter except water, oxygen, nitrogen, carbon dioxide and some other gases. Particles (solids), odour, acid are common pollutants.

Processes consist of unit processes or systems. Process flow starts from beginning to the end, so as pollution to treatment goal. Treated, purified, clarified, cleaned are popular words to described the objectives of treatment processes.
